RAYE ZARAGOZA LIVE!! | REDHAT
Coverage by Chris Sturk
Raye Zaragoza
“I have really been showcased as a protest song writer or as a political writer. I think that is great, because so many of the artists I have looked up to my whole life have also been pegged as political or protest song writers. Such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez and I really look up to them. So while I do appreciate it and like it, it is definitly not all I have to offer. ”
Interview with Raye Zaragoza: Music, Meaning, and Authenticity
I sat down with Raye to talk about her music, her philosophy, her writing process, and where she hopes to go next. Raye’s first album, released in April 2017 and self‑produced, is a powerful blend of political expression and emotional vulnerability. Songs like In the River and American Dream speak directly to causes and situations that matter deeply to her, while tracks such as Bushwick Avenue and Speedway reveal a softer, more intimate side of her artistry.
Raye isn’t shy about discussing the issues she cares about. She’s passionate, outspoken, and committed to doing whatever she can to help. That sincerity, paired with her unique vocal tone and strong songwriting, has earned her a growing fan base that not only supports her but embraces her at every show. Something you might not know about Raye: she’s a total goofball. Sitting down with her was refreshing — she joked around, laughed easily, and clearly enjoyed what she’s doing. While many people see her as a serious voice for important causes (and she absolutely is), she’s also warm, kind, and full of contagious energy.
Watch part one of my interview with her below. Part two is coming soon.
Raye is currently on tour with a few dates still on the schedule. You can learn more at her website: https://www.rayezaragoza.com/
