Helmet – The Ritz, Raleigh NC
Hardcore legends proving exactly why their legacy still hits like a wrecking ball
Hardcore metal legends Helmet tore through The Ritz in Raleigh on September 18th, 2022, with a performance that felt like a seismic event. Nothing—and absolutely no one—could stop them from bringing the house down. Decades into their career, they still deliver the kind of raw, unfiltered power that shaped an entire generation of heavy music fans.
From the first crushing riff, it was clear why Helmet remains one of the most beloved and influential bands of their era. Every yell, every guitar line, every pounding drum hit landed with that unmistakable Helmet precision—tight, aggressive, and unapologetically loud. They sounded epic, the kind of epic that only comes from years of mastering their craft and refusing to compromise their identity.
Hearing those classic songs live was a bucket‑list moment. The kind of moment that reminds you why you fell in love with heavy music in the first place. Helmet’s catalog has always carried a unique weight, and seeing those tracks performed in person—raw, loud, and right in your face—was something special. The crowd felt it too. Fans locked in, headbanging, shouting, and feeding off the band’s relentless energy. Helmet didn’t rely on theatrics or flashy production. They didn’t need to. Their presence, their sound, and their legacy were more than enough to command the room.
