Counting Crows — Live at Red Hat Amphitheater, Raleigh NC
Counting Crows brought a wave of nostalgia and unmistakable alternative‑rock soul to Red Hat Amphitheater on July 29, 2023. With a packed crowd and a warm summer night setting the tone, the legends delivered a performance that reminded everyone why their music has stayed timeless for decades.
Hearing Mr. Jones echo across the amphitheater was one of those moments that hits you right in the chest. For anyone who grew up with August and Everything After — like you remembering high school when that album dropped — it felt like stepping back into a familiar place. The crowd lit up instantly, singing along with every word, turning the venue into a chorus of shared nostalgia.
Adam Duritz gave a heartfelt performance, leaning into the emotional weight of each song. His vocals were strong throughout the night, though some of the higher notes showed a bit of strain — but honestly, that added a human touch rather than taking anything away. He still delivered with conviction, warmth, and that unmistakable tone fans have loved for decades.
The band sounded tight and unified, each member locked into the groove. Counting Crows have always had that organic, lived‑in chemistry — the kind that comes from years of touring, writing, and evolving together — and it showed. The instrumentation felt rich and full, with every layer supporting Duritz’s storytelling.
Across the amphitheater, fans were fully immersed. People sang along to their favorite songs, swayed to the slower moments, and erupted during the big choruses. It wasn’t just a concert; it was a shared experience between the band and the audience, built on decades of connection.
