HINDER LIVE!! | WALNUT CREEK

Hinder Brings Nostalgia and New Identity to Walnut Creek

Hinder performed at Coastal Credit Union Music Park in Raleigh in support of Staind’s sold‑out tour stop, delivering a set that blended the band’s early‑2000s legacy with the newer chapter they’ve been carving out over the past decade. Formed in 2001, Hinder broke into the rock scene with massive hits like Lips of an Angel, Get Stoned, Without You, and several others that became staples of the era. Much of that early success was tied to the raw, emotional vocal style of original frontman Austin Winkler, whose voice helped define the band’s identity and cement their place in rock radio history.

Austin’s departure in 2013 marked a major turning point for the band. In 2015, Hinder introduced Marshal Dutton as their new lead vocalist, beginning a period of rediscovery as they worked to evolve their sound while honoring the catalog fans grew up with. It’s no secret that the band has faced challenges in recapturing the spark of their early years — Austin’s voice was distinct, gritty, and instantly recognizable — and when Marshal performs those iconic songs live, the difference is noticeable. That’s simply the reality of a band whose biggest hits are tied so closely to a former member’s signature tone.

But here’s the important part: Marshal is a good vocalist, and the music Hinder has created with him stands on its own. Their performance at Walnut Creek proved that. The band sounded smooth, tight, and connected, and they brought genuine enthusiasm to the stage. Marshal engaged with the crowd, the band moved with confidence, and the energy felt positive and authentic. They weren’t trying to imitate the past — they were embracing who they are now.

Hearing those classic songs live again was a reminder of how deeply Hinder’s early work resonated with fans, but it was also encouraging to see the band continuing to tour, write, and push forward. They’re talented musicians with a strong catalog, and their commitment to evolving rather than trying to recreate what once was deserves respect.

If you get the chance to see Hinder live, it’s worth it — especially if you’re craving nostalgia mixed with a band still determined to grow. They may always battle the shadow of their history, but they’re still out there delivering solid performances and connecting with fans who’ve been with them since the beginning.
