SILVERSUN PICKUPS LIVE!! | LENOVO
Coverage by Chris Sturk
Opening for Weezer at Raleigh's Lenovo Center, Silversun Pickups proved why they remain one of the most compelling live bands in alternative rock. Having previously covered the band during an intimate performance at The Ritz in Raleigh, we were excited for another opportunity to photograph and experience their set. As expected, they did not disappoint.
From the moment they stepped onto the stage, Silversun Pickups brought their signature blend of atmosphere, musicianship, and energy to the arena. Their performances always carry a level of class and authenticity that resonates with fans, and this show was no different. Every member of the band appeared genuinely grateful to be on stage, delivering each song with passion and enthusiasm while maintaining the tight musicianship they have become known for throughout their career.
The stage production complemented the band's sound beautifully. A large backdrop displaying the band's name served as a centerpiece behind them while carefully designed lighting filled the arena. Shades of blue and white dominated the stage, accented by subtle yellow tones that created dramatic silhouettes of each band member. The lighting added texture and depth to the performance, enhancing the band's dreamy yet powerful sound.
The bands drummer Chris Guanlao delivered an energetic and physically demanding performance from start to finish. His intensity behind the kit brought an additional layer of excitement to the set, making him impossible to take your eyes off of at times. Whether driving the band's harder-hitting moments or navigating their more atmospheric passages, his performance remained a highlight of the evening.
Their music fills the venue with emotion, and every song feels purposeful and engaging. As an opening act, they set the tone perfectly for the night ahead while leaving a lasting impression on those in attendance. Having now seen them perform on multiple occasions, one thing remains clear: Silversun Pickups consistently deliver. Whether in a club setting like The Ritz or on a larger stage such as Lenovo Center, they bring the same passion, creativity, and musical excellence every time they perform.
