Staind Celebrates 25 Years of Break the Cycle at Coastal Credit Union Music Park
Staind returned to Raleigh with a massive night at Coastal Credit Union Music Park, performing to a sold‑out crowd of more than 19,000 fans as they celebrated the 25th anniversary of their landmark album Break the Cycle. For many, this record wasn’t just a moment in Staind’s career — it was a defining chapter in early‑2000s rock. Packed with hits like It’s Been Awhile, Fade, For You, Outside, and the deeply emotional Epiphany, the album pushed Staind into the mainstream and cemented their place in rock history.
This anniversary tour isn’t a front‑to‑back performance of the album. Instead, it’s a celebration of the era — a tribute to the songs that shaped the band’s rise and the fans who carried them there. They mix select tracks from Break the Cycle with other major hits from that decade, creating a setlist that feels nostalgic without being predictable. Not every song from the album makes the cut, but there’s more than enough to satisfy longtime fans and anyone who lived through Staind’s peak years.
The show opened with a video montage highlighting the band’s journey during the making of Break the Cycle, including rare footage of Staind hanging out with members of Pantera — a touching nod to legends who are no longer with us. It set the tone perfectly: a reminder of why this album mattered and why this celebration still resonates.
Onstage, the production was bold and immersive. A massive lighting setup washed the stage in shifting colors, while the large screen behind the drummer displayed visuals, words, and imagery tied to the band’s history. Aaron Lewis delivered his vocals with a calm, stoic presence, mostly centered at the front of the stage, letting the emotion of the songs do the heavy lifting. Lead guitarist Mike Mushok brought the most energy of the night, headbanging and moving with the kind of intensity that shows he still feels every riff in his bones. Bassist Johnny April added movement and presence across the stage, rounding out a performance that felt tight, confident, and true to Staind’s identity.
Aaron’s voice was spot‑on, and hearing those songs — the ones so many of us grew up with — hit in a way that only live music can. For fans who connected with Staind’s music during pivotal moments in their lives, this tour is a reminder of why those songs mattered then and why they still matter now.
If Staind’s music has ever impacted you, or if you simply want to relive some of the most iconic rock songs of the early 2000s, this tour is absolutely worth seeing. Hearing those tracks performed live again is more than a concert — it’s a night of memories, emotion, and a celebration of a band that helped define a generation of rock.
